In questo episodio…
- Il capitano spiega che il Comando della Flotta ha richiesto di rintracciare quattro civili e di riportarli sulla Terra per la loro sicurezza: si tratta di Sette di Nove, Beverly Crusher, Thomas Riker e Nicholas Locarno. Sapevamo già della sparizione delle due donne rispettivamente dalla prima e dalla terza stagione di Star Trek: Picard mentre scopriamo qui che Thomas è vivo e fuori di prigione, non avendo più avuto sue notizie da Defiant. Abbiamo anche una prima indicazione delle attività di Locarno dopo The First Duty.
- Mariner e T'Lyn si rendono conto di aver partecipato insieme alla battaglia vista in wej Duj.
- Scopriamo che Mariner era grande amica di Sito Jaxa: la sua etica ha avuto grande impatto sulla visione di Mariner per la Flotta Stellare, così come il suo tragico fato ha avuto un grande ruolo nella accidentata carriera di Mariner nella Flotta. Il fatto che Sito non abbia mai superato il grado di guardiamarina spiega anche finalmente la grande avversione di Mariner per le promozioni.

- I caschi in dotazione all'avamposto nel teaser sono molto simili a quelli usati in The Tholian Web.
- La storia della Squadra Nova — in particolare riguardo a Nicholas Locarno e Sito Jaxa — è lunga oltre un decennio. Inizia nel 2368 con The First Duty, prosegue nel 2370 con Lower Decks e si conclude infine nel 2381 con i due episodi The Inner Fight e Old Friends, New Planets che chiudono la quarta stagione di Star Trek: Lower Decks e che introducono la Flotta Nova.

Ma'ah: In the past Klingons believed humans to be weak and easily defeated. But your species has proved its toDuj. Sito was a warrior. You do not honor her.
Ma'ah: Sito made her choice. You want to solve puzzles and mysteries? Your friend gave her life to protect that. She would not approve of your actions.
Mariner: You're… You're right. She'd… she'd say I'm acting like an idiot. A biHnuch. Okay, but Starfleet can do better. I'm not wrong to call out bullbleep when I see it.
Ma'ah: Honor your friend, slay your enemies, and study your… what is it… plants?
Mariner: Yeah, I mean… Yeah, sometimes it's plants. My name's Beckett.
Ma'ah: I am M'aah. The storm is over. We can resume our battle. There is a clearing over there that… Remove yourself. What is the meaning of this?
Mariner: I'm hugging you.
Ma'ah: K-Klingons do not hug.
Mariner: We're both trapped on this planet, surrounded by various aliens. We should work together.
